State of the Union: American Politics Part 2

Now, let me get back to my original point. I believe when power is centralized the way it has become in this country, accountability becomes a problem. A big problem. Let's think about this for a minute; if you are like ninety percent of Americans; when you receive your pay, you have all these taxes taken out: FICA-OASDI, FICA-Medicare, Social security, Federal income tax, State income tax, disability. Then once we do collect what's left of our pay, we are required to pay a minimum of 7 cent on every dollar we spend in taxes.

This is the case for most Americans; like I said it takes money to run a nation, however, we should take a look at the monetary system we use to do so." When we do, let's keep accountability in mind." All this money is taken out of our checks before we receive them; with more taxes imposed on us for consumption. Never mind, the taxes imposed on those responsible for producing the goods we consume. All these taxes are taken from us, but I'd like to know if you have a clue where this money goes? Or what it's used for? I mean the truth is our government -especially on the Federal level- has become such a monstrosity, that even the people who's job it is to know where our tax dollars are spent, have no clue.

So, what is the solution for a federal government overreaching it's bounds; with run-away spending, and little or no accountability? Well, to find the solution, we must first, be able to find the root of the problem. In my opinion, the root of the problem is in the trickling down of power from Washington. Decentralization of power would do much to correct our course. To take the authority and put it back into the hands of our state and local governments; in this way the accountability issue we face would be solved.

I also believe the local governments should be responsible for the health and welfare of it's citizens; in that way, we as a community could find solutions to the problems that face our state or county. Let's face it: The federal government is not our mother nor our father. It is not their responsibility to pay our mortgage, nor to pay for our health care; we the people of this great nation cannot be sent a bill every time someone gets a cold. If we return power back to the local level we could hold our politicians accountable for their actions; as well, we would also then be accountable.
