September 11, 2001: Then & Now

Do you remember what we lost on 9/11? On that fateful day, when the enemies of our way of life attacked us. War was declared on the United States of America, a sleeping giant was awakened, and once again the heroes of this proud republic were called to duty. Leaving behind, the ones they love to protect a way of life, we sometimes take for granted. I remember exactly where I was on september 11, 2001, as I'm sure most Americans do.

We lost our peace of mind that day, we lost our perceived invincibility, our family members, friends, and  neighbors. We have now forgotten what we felt during that moment in time. Yet there are still men and women out there everyday, miles from home, giving all they have, to be sure this great nation doesn't fall victim to terrorist acts again. Not on our soil. There are people right here in our neighborhoods, whom have surrendered their loved ones to this great, and noble cause. Many whom have cried themselves to sleep over the uncertainty of war. I am almost to the point of disgust with the current political landscape.

I guess it is easy to shout "no war" When you've enjoyed the freedom and safety that war has afforded you. It is easy to hate this nation, when you have surrendered nothing to protect it. Easy to worry about the rights of terrorists, When your own rights have not been violated. I write this article in the defense of all those who have said their last goodbyes, to the men and women that serve and give all in the defense of this, "our" great nation.

I am here to say, while many in this country are worried about the comfort of the terrorists that attacked us; our soldiers worry daily about a roadside bomb, or bombs strapped to the children they are trying to protect. While many in this nation are calling our troops torturers and murderers, there are mothers in this country wearing holes in their knees, praying their children will come home alive. We are at war. There are people in this world that want to kill us simply because of who we are, and what we stand for.

We should concern ourselves with equipping, and protecting the rights of those responsible for our safety. I have no patience for any politician who would use the heroic acts of our military for political posturing. Nor do I have any patience for anyone, who would ask our young men and women to protect this nation, only to demonize, and politicize the manner in which they do it.

To the heroes of the United States Armed Forces:

May God bless your ventures, and the selfless acts you perform in our defense on a daily basis. May He walk each step with you on your path through history. Thanks be to you and the loving members of your family that boldly, and benevolently surrender your efforts. We can lay our heads down in peace knowing the world's finest are on our side. THANK YOU!!!
